Here are some guides to help you understand and get started with web development...
The Basics (From htmlgoodies.com)
All web pages are created with HTML (Hypertext Markup Language). It is good
to understand "The Basics" of HTML before getting into any heavy
web development. This is a good guide to start with since it not only covers
HTML,
but also gives a brief explanation of how to actually get your pages on the
World Wide Web.

Your Domain Name (From cnet.com)
"Online, everybody who's anybody has a domain name, a personalized Web
address. We'll show you how to nab yours before someone else does." This
is a good overview of the process of getting a web address, registering it,
and choosing a web hosting service.

Macromedia Dreamweaver MX
Dreamweaver (DW) is one of many visual web development programs available (others
include Microsoft Front Page and Netscape Composer). Programs like these help
developers easily create web sites, whether they know
HTML or
not. I prefer DW because it seems to be the simplest to use and has
many features that make it easy to create awesome websites.
Dreamweaver MX is the newest version of Dreamweaver. I am in the process of becoming acquanted with MX, but I have developed websites in the past with DW 4. If you are new to web development or want to enhance your web development experience, be sure to try this.
